The «Olympia Health & Nutrition Awards» event took place on 17th May 2018 in Old Parliament in Athens, awarding top international olive oil producers.
The event was coorganised by Aristoil partner, University of Athens and NGO "World Olive Center for Health". It was the third year organised, but this time surpassed the number of 2500 participants, which makes it the biggest international olive oil competition.
Very important speakers presented the recent researches on the issue: "Olive oil and health" and were from the University of Harvard (Stefanos Kales), University of California (Dan Flynn), Northeastern University (Diomedes Logothetis), University of Cambridge (Simon Poole) and scientists from the University of Athens (Prokopis Magiatis, Eleni Melliou), University of Thessaloniki (Magda Tsolaki) and University of Peloponnese (Paola Rohas).
Prizes were awarded to olive oil producers from Greece, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Cyprus.
Very important moment of the event was the announcement of the results of two clinical researches on greek olive oil full of polyphenols that was chosen among thousands of samples by University of Athens and especially the team of Pr. Prokopis Magiatis.
The President of World Olive Center for Health Dr. Eleni Melliou emphasised on the therapeutic properties of high phenolic olive oil and recommended that is important to go on with the researches in Greece and USA.
